What is an intensive Italian course and how is it different from a regular course?

I meet a lot of students who want to learn Italian but feel like they do not have enough time. They work full time, have families, or are preparing for an upcoming trip to Italy. A standard course that meets once a week for six months feels too slow. That is exactly why I created my intensive Italian course.

An intensive Italian course is a fast-paced program designed for rapid language progress through concentrated learning sessions. You cover the same material as a standard course, but in less time. The key difference is frequency and focus. Instead of spreading one hour across a week, you compress your learning into more frequent, focused sessions. This creates a natural immersion effect. Your brain stays in Italian mode between lessons because you are constantly reinforcing what you learn.

The course uses total immersion, focused lessons, and constant practice to accelerate your learning. Every minute of class time is spent on high-impact activities. There is no downtime, no waiting for other students, and no filler material. This efficiency is what makes intensive learning work. As research on language acquisition shows, frequent exposure and active practice are the key drivers of fluency.

How many lessons does the intensive Italian course include?

The structure of the intensive course is flexible and adapts to your goals. For private one-on-one intensive lessons, I recommend 90-minute sessions twice a week for four weeks to complete one CEFR level. That means you go from A0 to A1, or from A1 to A2, in about one month. For students who want even faster progress, we can meet three or four times per week.

For group intensive courses, sessions run 90 minutes three times a week. The group format is more affordable while still providing the accelerated pace. Group sizes are kept small, typically three to five students, so you still receive plenty of individual attention.

The most common question I get is whether intensive courses actually work. The answer is yes, but they require commitment. You need to be ready to focus, practice between sessions, and make Italian a priority. If you are, the results can be remarkable. Many of my intensive students reach conversational fluency in a fraction of the time it would take in a traditional course. If you prefer a more relaxed pace, my personal Italian tutoring might be a better fit.

What is the price for intensive Italian lessons?

Private intensive lessons cost 48 Euros per 90-minute session. This is the same rate as my standard private lessons, but you get longer sessions that allow for deeper immersion. Group intensive courses cost 18 Euros per person per session for groups of three to five students, and 12 Euros per person per session for groups of six or more.

You can pay per session or purchase a discounted package for multiple lessons. I also offer a money-back guarantee on all lesson packages. If you decide the intensive format is not for you, you receive a refund for any unused sessions. Full pricing details are on my course prices page.

If you are unsure about committing to a full intensive program, start with my free crash course. It gives you ten video lessons that introduce essential Italian phrases and vocabulary. You complete it at your own pace, and then we continue with the intensive program from there.

How does the intensive course achieve faster results?

The intensive course achieves faster results through three key principles: immersion, focus, and practice.

Immersion means you are surrounded by Italian throughout each session. From the moment we start speaking, we use Italian as much as possible. Your brain adapts to processing Italian in real time, which builds the neural pathways needed for fluent speech.

Focus means we eliminate unnecessary material. The intensive curriculum targets essential grammar, vocabulary, and conversation skills. We do not waste time on obscure grammar rules or rare vocabulary. Every concept we cover is something you will actually use in real conversations.

Practice means you are constantly applying what you learn. Each session includes speaking exercises, role-plays, and real-time feedback. You do not just listen to explanations. You practice until the concepts become automatic.

I have refined this approach over 17 years of teaching. I know which shortcuts work and which ones do not. I know which grammar concepts need careful explanation and which ones students pick up naturally through practice. This experience allows me to design intensive programs that maximize every minute of your learning time.

What level do I need for the intensive course?

The intensive course is available for all levels, from absolute beginner A0 to advanced C2. During your free trial lesson, I assess your current level and customize the intensive curriculum to match.

If you are a complete beginner, the intensive format works very well. Starting from zero with frequent, focused sessions helps you build a strong foundation quickly. Within a few weeks, you can handle basic conversations about familiar topics.

If you are an intermediate student, the intensive format helps you break through plateaus. Many intermediate learners feel stuck because they know a lot of vocabulary but cannot speak fluently. Intensive practice forces you to use what you know in real time, which builds fluency rapidly.

If you are an advanced student, the intensive format refines your skills through concentrated practice on nuanced topics, idiomatic expressions, and cultural contexts.

What does a typical intensive lesson look like?

A typical 90-minute intensive session is structured to maximize learning efficiency. We start with a brief warm-up in Italian to activate your language skills. Then we introduce new material, which could be grammar, vocabulary, or a cultural topic. We practice the new material through structured exercises and guided conversation. Then we move into free practice where you apply everything you have learned in an open conversation. We end with a review of key points and practice assignments for the next session.

Between sessions, I give you targeted practice materials. These are not busywork. They are specific exercises that reinforce what we covered and prepare you for the next session. You typically need 30 to 60 minutes of practice between each session to maintain the intensive pace.

Can I try the intensive course before enrolling?

Yes, absolutely. I offer a free trial lesson so you can experience the intensive format before committing. During the trial, we discuss your goals, assess your level, and work through a sample intensive session. You experience the pace, my teaching style, and the course structure firsthand.

If after the trial you decide the intensive format is right for you, we create a customized intensive program based on your goals and availability. If you prefer a slower pace, my online Italian classroom or conversation course might be a better fit. Either way, the trial helps you make an informed decision.

Who is the intensive course for and who is it not for?

The intensive course is ideal for students who have a clear goal and a specific deadline. You are preparing for a trip to Italy in two months. You need Italian for a new job. You want to reach a certification level by a certain date. You have limited time each week and need to make every minute count.

The intensive course is not for students who want a casual, low-pressure learning experience. It requires consistent effort, regular practice, and a willingness to be pushed. If you prefer to learn slowly and gently, my standard private tutoring or group conversation course would suit you better.

That said, many students who initially feel unsure about the intensive format end up loving it. The rapid progress is motivating. Seeing real improvement every week keeps you engaged and excited. If you are on the fence, try the free trial and see how it feels. You can read about my teaching approach on my about me page.
